systemd-login cannot connect to system bus

Hi all,

I'm stuck..

My systemd-logind.service is not starting..

journalctl -xe
systemd-logind[606]: Failed to connect to system bus: No such file or directory
systemd-logind[606]: Failed to fully start up daemon: No such file or directory

sysctl status:

failed
Process: 606 ExecStart=/usr/lib/systemd/systemd-logind (code=exited, status=1/FAILURE
Status: Shutting down...

When I run the file /usr/lib/systemd/systemd-logind I get:
Failed to connect to system bus: No such file or directory
Failed to fully start up daemon: No such file or directory

That is an old kernel, have you updated recently? Have you rebooted since?

Nope. grsec-linux is at 4.6.4.201607242014-1 (updated today, but before that it was at 201607192040). Your version is two weeks old.

Thanks.  That all looks pretty good.   A couple things I note.  First, you are running this as a virtual machine.  That bit of information is usually important.
Part of me is wondering if the paranoia of the grsec kernel is interacting (badly) with the virtualization.  You might try a stock kernel to see if you get the some result.

Second, I note that you have a user name that is *NOT* root that seems to have a UID == 0.  That seems very wrong.  And, it is the last thing in the log before the error message you reported back at the start of the thread.

Ok, so I've reverted the machine back to stock kernel and it has made no difference.

I don't know why UID=0 for this non-root user after logging in. /etc/passwd shows it assigned as 1000 and root as 0. For testing, I setup a new user and that logged in as uid=0 also.
