I installed FireFox 47 and https websites don't load

After I installed FireFox 47 ( I hoped it is a bit faster than the previous version) no https websites keep loading, for example all the Google branch, mail, search engine, etc. Every other websites loads properly if https isn't involved.

What error message do you get? Is it only happening with Google websites?

It is very interesting: I get absolutely no error messages...
Not only Google, but other websites with https too.

Do you mean that you only get a blank page? Have you cleaned Firefox's cache? Perhaps try with a new Firefox profile, i.e., without any addons and such.

Re: I installed FireFox 47 and https websites don't load

I cleared the cache (Preferences / Advanced / Network tab), I disabled all add-ons, restarted, https websites still don't load.
When I enter the address on an empty tab, it seems to try loading but only a very short time (0.3 sec) and then the tab remains empty, no error messages at all. I tried to start firefox from console by typing "firefox" to see some error messages, but they don't appear at all.

Hmm.. it is indeed very strange. Are other browsers working fine? Can you use Firefox's Network Monitor to see what's happening. See here how to use it: https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/doc … rk_Monitor

Re: I installed FireFox 47 and https websites don't load

You can see the firefox browser console with ctrl + shift + J or from the menu -> Developer -> Browser Console
You can see how far a request progresses with the network panel ctrl + shift + Q or from menu -> Developer -> Network then select a request and select timings
Can you connect to the sites using successfully using command line tools such as wget or curl or using another browser?
Any corruption of firefox or Network Security Services?

$ pacman -Qkk firefox nss

Is it possible to downgrade to any previous version? Package "downgrade" is installed at me, but it is unable to find any other packages neither local nor remote than the current one.

Re: I installed FireFox 47 and https websites don't load

Try as x33a said, either use a new profile or create a new user account and try from there. You may have something configured in your environment, or some bad configuration in your firefox's profile that is causing trouble.

Re: I installed FireFox 47 and https websites don't load

Please follow the advice given and create a new, clean Firefox profile. I case you don't know how: firefox -P opens the profile editor. This way we can find out if it's a configuration problem or not.

Many thx, yes I really didn't know that. In fact I was unaware of existence of those profiles, so I simply didn't understand what profiles should I create.

Re: I installed FireFox 47 and https websites don't load

Now I made a clean new profile, but I experience the same: https websites still don't load. I will try using windows firefox with wine till next version of firefox (I hope it solves the problem), because I need a specific add-on called Clippings, which doesn't work in other browsers.

Re: I installed FireFox 47 and https websites don't load

Maybe we are tilting at the wrong windmill. What about IPv6 vs IPv4?  https websites are probably the same ones that are going to have dual IP stack capability.  I am wondering if your system thinks it has a valid IPv6 address and is trying to use that and failing.   Try deleting any IPv6 addresses your NIC may have; or even better, try disabling it all together: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/IPv6#Disable_IPv6.   See if this helps, or if it is just another windmill shaped giant.

Did you start Firefox with the new profile?

Re: I installed FireFox 47 and https websites don't load

Nothing, still not operating. On top of that I can't use windows firefox with wine, because the Clippings add-on somehow doesn't work in wine. I will try disabling IPv6 by adding kernel parameter "ipv6.disable=1" at next restart.

Re: I installed FireFox 47 and https websites don't load

That does look frustrating wink  Did you ever try disabling IPv6?   As a sanity check, what happens if you disable Clippings ?

Are you behind a proxy? If you are and the proxy is doing SSL decryption then this error would be because you're missing the CA certs for that proxy.

If it was proxy related as curl and firefox by default use the same certificate store would you not expect them both to fail?
Also does chrome not use certificate pinning specifically for the *.google.com wildcard certificate which would fail on a proxy generated certificate?

Maybe. Mozilla uses NSS
https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/about/gov … oup/certs/

A lot of apps like Chrome will also use this but I'm not as familiar with this as I probably should be. I have no idea if curl uses it.

That said I just watched the video above and this doesn't look like a cert issue as the page didn't even load at all. This looks like a firefox profile or addon issue from what I could tell.

Re: I installed FireFox 47 and https websites don't load

Now I am using package firefox-beta-bin, and it simply works. It is even faster and more responsive than the previous version, pleasant surprise. Normal firefox still doesn't work, I tried first to disable all add-ons, but no success.

Re: I installed FireFox 47 and https websites don't load

Hi
I did expereince more or less the same issue when updating to the firefox 47.0. Only it was terribly too slow on both http and https. I then tried to migrate to chromium as a full day search and troubleshoot did not solve anything . I remember that  the issue was resolved by completely removing the add-ons(I am terribly dependant to great deal of them especially the foxyproxy) and not syncing everything from my firefox account but the passwords. Then an update of the arch and voilla  all was back into business...
