I have onboard SiS 661 video on this new box. I find that with Arch Current, there is an annoying flicker of horizontal lines that show up, especially when I type in a box like this. However, with CentOS 4.3 and Kubuntu 5.10, this problem is absent. Of course, of those three installations, Arch is the only one with Xorg7.
I find this problem with Arch whether I use the sis or the vesa driver. Here are my sis driver settings:

I just installed and tested Mepis 6.0 Beta 1, which, like Arch Current, uses Xorg7. I find no video flickering with Mepis. So there's something going on only with Arch that causes this very very annoying flickering of horizontal lines, espcially when typing. I have even recompiled the kernel to include SiS graphics support, and that fails to do anything for this problem. I only compiled it for this problem, as I prefer to just use the precompiled kernels Arch supplies.

This turns out to be known problem with xscreensaver 4.23. Upgrading to 4.24 solves it on my SiS box. A new Arch build for xscreensaver should appear soon, with the newer version.
