[xf86-video-intel] Tearing with DRI3 on Sandy Bridge

Yesterday xf86-video-intel was updated from version 2.99.917+676+g26f8ab5-1 to 2.99.917+684+g6988b87-3 and during the installation there was a message that DRI3 is now the default. Until yesterday, I had been using the option TearFree with DRI2. However, with DRI3 there is tearing, independently of whether TearFree is on or off (I tested both). Reverting back to DRI2 with TearFree on, everything works OK. Has anybody noticed something similar?

Re: [xf86-video-intel] Tearing with DRI3 on Sandy Bridge

On my Ivy Bridge PC I have always found I need to use the TearFree on option to get a completely smooth transition to/from the gnome-shell overview. After the xf86-video-intel 1:2.99.917+676+g26f8ab5-1 -> 1:2.99.917+684+g6988b87-3 update I was getting a jittery transition with or without the TearFree option set or not (just like with the default settings and also like with the default modesetting driver). Like you, I now have to set DRI 2 and TearFree on to get the smooth transition back. Note many people would not notice this until they see the difference then it's hard to accept the default.

On my Broadwell laptop I don't even need xf86-video-intel. Just using the default modesetting gives me a smooth transition.
