I'm running a Windows 10 virtual machine within Arch Linux and can't seem to get the built-in analog microphone working. In Windows, if I go to Sound -> Recording, it says "No audio devices are installed". I've looked at my PulseAudio Volume Control settings but can't find anything suspicious. I'm using VirtualBox 5.1.2. Any suggestions/hints are welcome. Thanks.

Downgrading to a 5.0.X version fixed the issue for me as I couldn't find a fix for 5.1.2.

Thanks, this seems to work for now.

Hi,
I'm having the same issue and downgrading to 5.0.x fixed the issue at first.
Now (after a week or two) I get the following issue when using 5.0.x:
➜ ~ vboxmanage --version
5.0.24_OSEr108355
➜ ~ vboxmanage list vms
VBoxManage: error: Failed to create a session object!
VBoxManage: error: Code NS_ERROR_FACTORY_NOT_REGISTERED (0x80040154) - Class not registered (extended info not available)
Is it only me getting this error?
And I wonder if there will be any fix or workaround for 5.1.x?

I can use my microphone when I set Intel HD Audio as the Audio Controller.

In my case that didn't work. Only downgrading has worked for now.

audio host controller:pulseaudio
audiodriver:Audio Intel HD

Had the same issue, downgraded to VB 5.0, same behaviour. I had to uninstall the HD audio driver in the guest and reinstall it. I suspect doing the same with 5.1 should work also, I'll keep this thread updated.

Confirmed. I just upgraded to VB 5.1 and the microphone / recording device still works. It seems that the removal, reboot, re-detection of the Intel HD audio card does the trick.
