gsfonts 20160531-3 font hinting vs gsfonts 20150811-1

Since gsfonts have been upgraded to OTF format I've been struggling with their hinting. here's a comparison I made for the Manjaro forum - I prefer the previous hinting I had with the Type1 fonts.

What can I do do achieve a similar font rendering that I had with gsfonts 20150811-1 ?
