New wallpaper

Since I've been practising more with Blender, having now abandoned C4D, and since Blender is coming along well with what's possible with GPU rendering, I thought it time for a new wallpaper. Similar in theme to my last, but with added oomph.

Deliberately has no high contrast areas so that it should work with dark and light themes. I hope that you like.

Re: New wallpaper

Very nice! I have a couple of suggestions:
-The two rocks in the far left look rather out of place. I would move them a LOT tighter to the Arch logo, or delete them
-Likewise, the single rock to the far right could perhaps also be moved?
-I would shift the  entire scene to the right a bit, so that the arch logo is not positioned dead center. This is for the "rule of thids" camera/image technique. It should give your background more pop and also allow for, say, a conky to be run to on the left side.
-Your fire and water (water?) look somewhat bad in my opinion. The part where they meet seems to me like the water just died, IE dropped off 90 degrees straight down. Perhaps opening that up a bit may help. Also, instead of water you could have thick black tar/oil. That would give your fire much more context and purpose without adding contrast.
-Solid blue background (where there is no fire effect) is... meh. I think that even a slight ammount of clouds, or a sun, or something other than a plain color would do nicely.
-We need the open source image/texture/blend file! This would be a gimp .xcf if you use gimp. This is ultimately up to you though. Also, it might be helpful to share the image in SVG format, thereby allowing it to be scaled up/down for different resolutions.

All in all I really like this and I hope my comments are helpful for you! smile

Re: New wallpaper

Well done smile I really like scratches on the logo.
I have a little suggestion on your current wallpaper. Instead of an explosion behind arch logo, maybe make it dark gray and similar to the ground. Something like the image bellow, but in 3d smile

Re: New wallpaper

If you really want a plain BG version, I can do it, but it will lack the drama.

Re: New wallpaper

@mazxhar - honestly, there are tutorials galore for Blender. Do a YouTube search for blenderguru, cgcookie, borncg as a starter. You'll literally find a tutorial on anything you need.

I'd like to see it in case it doesn't take you much time. I would like to use it as my background.

Re: New wallpaper

Nice job! .. I too am having a serious go at blender these days creating mesh for virtual worlds.
I'm not sure I follow your theme, tho nice; I don't understand the scratches on the arch and flames with metal rocks..
Is there some hidden message wrapped up in your imagery?

Re: New wallpaper

Hi 0xE

I'm glad you like it. Whilst most of my 3D does try to have at least a modicum of story, unless it's just a product/studio type shot, on this one, no. It was purely a stylized image to be used as a backdrop. I dare say if I threw a couple of meteors in there with some flying debris, it would probably satisfy the story, but for it's purpose, I didn't think it necessary.
