Hello,
I installed arch liunx in my new lenovo thinkpad 450 laptop and the webcam is not working.
result of uname -a :
Linux stultus-ws 4.6.4-1-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT Mon Jul 11 19:12:32 CEST 2016 x86_64 GNU/Linux
relevant part from the result of lsusb :
Bus 002 Device 004: ID 5986:055a Acer, Inc
result of dmesg | grep uvcvideo :
[ 8.942248] uvcvideo: Found UVC 1.00 device Integrated Camera (5986:055a)
[ 8.942275] uvcvideo: No valid video chain found.
[ 8.942297] usbcore: registered new interface driver uvcvideo
Any idea how to fix this? when I googled about this, found a few thread in the linux-uvc mailing list which talks about a patch. I don't have any experience in applying the patch and compiling the kernal. but I'm ready to give it a try.
here is the instructions for debian - http://merwan.github.io/2016/05/12/how- … ebian.html , but I don't know how to get relevant kernal source in arch, is there an equivalent for apt-get source linux-image-$(uname -r) and sudo apt-get install linux-headers-$(uname -r) in arch?

Kernel compilation on Arch is much simpler than debian.
There is already a patch applied to the vanilla kernel, so it is just a matter of adding this after it in the PKGBUILD.

I am currently having exactly the same problem, with a Thinkpad e550.
If you have had any problem compiling the kernel with the patch applied, tell me and we can debug it together.
By any chance someone knows of a status on this webcam support included in the kernel?

What do I get?
I only got the patch? Or a new kernel?

Welcome to Arch Linux. Before posting you should get familiar with the Code of conduct. In this case you are posting in an old thread, this is considered necro-bumping and is usually discouraged.
Please open a new thread and provide all relevant information that can help others help you, this includes at least the full dmesg output, the output of lsusb, any error messages you get and what you have tried so far to get to make it work.
Closing this thread.
