All folders are grayed-out when selecting desktop wallpaper in XFCE4

Just did a fresh installation of Arch on my Dell XPS 13. Everything seems to be okay, except when I right click > desktop settings to set my desktop wallpaper, I can't seem to click any of the directories. I can choose from the default directories such as Desktop, File System, and backgrounds, but when I click "Other..." to select another directory, all of the directories are grayed out.

Any ideas?

Same here on an old install. Possible explanation here.

As a work-around you can type the path to the desired directory in the Location: box and hit Enter.

Ahh, I see. Good to know it's not my filesystem's error. Thanks so much!

I'm having exactly the same problem after recent update. Extremely frustrating, I must say.
Glad to know that I'm not the only one who seeing it.

There is a workaround, just drag and drop the subfolders you want to "places" to the left. Then you can select your desired folder with your wallpapers. e.g. if i have a subfolder under "Pictures" named "Wallpapers" i just drag the "Wallpapers" folder to the left pane and can choose it when selecting walls smile
Not a solution, but a workaround at least.

E: I see that alphaniner had a similar workaround in original post as well.

I possess a device, in my pocket, that is capable of accessing the entirety of information known to man.
I use it to look at funny pictures of cats and to argue with strangers.
