[SOLVED] Screen won't powersave wake-up after xf86-video-intel update

I have an issue with my machine, which has an HDMI connected main monitor, after I ran the set of updates yesterday that include xf86-video-intel (1:2.99.917+676+g26f8ab5-1 -> 1:2.99.917+688
+g49daf5d-1).  Other updates include mesa, and systemd to 231-1.  Running the plasma desktop I have always set the Screen Energy Saving to switch off after a timeout of 10 minutes in the Energy Saving tab under Power Management in the System Settings area. The screen/monitor has always happily gone into powersave mode, and then just as happily usually wakes up when the mouse is moved, or if a button such as the shift key is pressed.  However after the updates yesterday, including a reboot, the screen won't wake up once the system has gone into powersave.

I found that I can use ctrl-alt-F3 to go into a different VT, and then back to the graphics screen via ctrl-alt-F1, and then am presented with the screensaver password to get back into my plasma session. So using ctrl-alt-Fx does wake up the monitor from powersave. But this should not be necessary and I don't know if this is a bug in the xf86-video-intel package or something else, but wondered if anyone else has come across this problem, and if so if there is a workaround other than downgrading the buggy package?

Same thing for me. I am also using an HDMI connected monitor with the plasma desktop. The last version of xf86-video-intel that works for me is xf86-video-intel-1:2.99.917+676+g26f8ab5-1-x86_64.

When I get a bit of time to test I will try to downgrade the xf86-video-intel package and see if that fixes the problem - and if so I guess a bug report will be needed.

also maybe try the modesetting driver - seems to be prefered over the intel driver these times. see the note here https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Intel_graphics

Thanks damjan though I have tried using the modesetting driver but without success (not related to the current issue though)

I downgraded xf86-video-intel back to 1:2.99.917+676+g26f8ab5-1 and the bug disappeared - reported at https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/50233

Re: [SOLVED] Screen won't powersave wake-up after xf86-video-intel update

After a slew of updates last night including plasma-workspace (5.7.2-2 -> 5.7.3-1) this problem seems to have been resolved and the newest version of xf86-video-intel now works with the powersave wake-up. So I will mark this as solved.

Hi,
This issue still exists for me, but I am using the latest cinnamon desktop.
It would be interesting to find out what change took place in driver that resulted in this bug.

Re: [SOLVED] Screen won't powersave wake-up after xf86-video-intel update

In my case whatever change took place in the driver seems to have been taken care of by corresponding changes to the plasma packages in the updates that followed a day or so later. Possibly the cinnamon packages also need some changes to resolve your issue?

This may be true. I will wait and see if any updates from the cinnamon desktop solves the issue. In the mean while, I will use your work around to enter another VT and go back to the graphics screen.
Thank you.

I'm in the same boat w.r.t Cinnamon & xf86-video-intel. Is there any news about a potential fix yet?

Re: [SOLVED] Screen won't powersave wake-up after xf86-video-intel update

Check your x11 settings at /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf

Section "Device"
    Identifier "Intel Graphics"
    Driver "intel"
    Option "AccelMethod" "sna"
    #Option "AccelMethod" "uxa"
EndSection

I changed "AccelMethod"  "uxa" to "AccelMethod"  "sna" and my problem was resolved. Also using Cinnamon.
