How can I fix the colors of my notifications in Cinnamon?

My notifications are barely readable in cinnamon:

I'm using the Numix gtk3 theme. I tried out a number of themes and I'm guessing one of them broke it somehow, but I only noticed later and I don't know where to start looking. If I switch the theme again, this look does not change. Does anyone have an idea how I can troubleshoot this?
