I just updated my system with pacman -Syu and when it finished everything went black. I wasn't able to do anything so I forced the shut down. On rebooting the "utility bar" at the bottom of the screen is blacked out. Owncloud opens on start-up so I know the windows manager is functionnal but that is my only way to access it. The desktop wall paper also changed.

Analyze and fix the problem from a tty. Ctrl-Alt-F2, F3 ...

Journalctl dosent give me anything usefull. And I don't really have an idea as to what the problem might be.

Whats your graphics card? Post your xorg logs.
I possess a device, in my pocket, that is capable of accessing the entirety of information known to man.
I use it to look at funny pictures of cats and to argue with strangers.

Is it possible for someone to tell what I should be looking for in these logs?

Run plasmashell in gdb to get a backtrace

I am guessing that this could be the problem
dbus-core: error connecting to system bus: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply (Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken.)

Finally I was able to solve this problem. It seems I was missing some parts of the QtQuick Module. I found out using the following command
journalctl -b | grep "[Ee][Rr][Rr]"
