I have two monitors, HDMI and DVI-D plugged into the same nvidia graphics card. When I boot, I need to swap their position and which one is primary through nvidia-settings. I would like to be able to save my configuration so that it persists between boots. I've done some reading online, and in man pages, but I haven't come to any answers yet.
How can I make my monitor positions persist between reboots?
I have this line in my ~/.xinitrc:
exec nvidia-settings --load-config-only & gnome-session
Here is my ~/.nvidia-settings-rc. Note: When I change position of screens and regenerate this file with nvidia-settings, the contents don't change.

I have no files in /etc/X11/ or in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d, but if I use nvidia-settings to generate /etc/X11/xorg.conf and reboot, it doesn't make a difference. The generated file looks like this:

Solved it. It must have been a permissions issue with xorg.conf. I had generated ~/xorg.conf by running nvidia-settings as a user, then: sudo mv ~/xorg.conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf. Instead I just tried sudo nvidia-settings, and generated the file straight to /etc/X11/xorg.conf and things seemed to work.
