XFCE power management woes

I'm having two slightly annoying issues with the XFCE power manager.  First is that it seems to be ignoring the 'plugged in' setting for the lid switch.  I want the computer to only go to sleep when the lid is closed when on battery; when it's plugged in it should not go to sleep.  For quite some time it has been fine, but it has suddenly started ignoring the power adapter state and is going to sleep unconditionally when the lid is closed.  The settings in the xfce power manager appear to be getting ignored - even if I set both 'on battery' and 'plugged in' to 'lock screen', the computer still goes to sleep when closing the lid, regardless of whether or not it is plugged in.  I tried editing /etc/systemd/logind.conf to get it to ignore the lid switch...which completely prevents it from sleeping on lid close, even when on battery.

The other problem is that the screen brightness changes by 2 steps when using the brightness keys.  Almost seems like 2 different subsystems are changing the brightness by 10% at the same time.  Unchecking 'handle display brightness keys' in xfce power manager completely disables the keys.  I tried the kernel command line arguments acpi_backlight=video, acpi_backlight=vendor, and acpi_backlight=native.  acpi_backlight=video and acpi_backlight=native had no effect, acpi_backlight=vendor did something...the keys no longer changed the brightess, but they did pop up the box with the brigness level, and they changed it through about 8 steps instead of 5.

Any ideas about other options that I can try?

Re: XFCE power management woes

So, I made one small discovery on the sleep issue...there is a commented out line in logind.conf, LidSwitchIgnoreInhibited=yes.  So I added LidSwitchIgnoreInhibited=no to logind.conf.  This seems to help a little bit...now, if both 'on battery' and 'plugged in' options in xfce power manager are set to 'lock screen', the screen gets locked as expected.  However, if ONE of them (namely, 'on battery') is set to suspend, it will suspend regardless of whether or not the adapter is plugged in.  What gives?

Re: XFCE power management woes

There are some bug reports upstream about this issue:
- https://bugzilla.xfce.org/show_bug.cgi?id=12497
- https://bugzilla.xfce.org/show_bug.cgi?id=12728
- https://bugzilla.xfce.org/show_bug.cgi?id=12088
Not sure which are exactly related to what you're experiencing as some seem to be affected by lightdm/light-locker integration.

Re: XFCE power management woes

I suppose I should add a couple more details:  I'm currently running xscreensaver, not light-locker.  Though I suppose I could try light-locker at some point.  I am using lightdm.

Also, the screen brightness step size issue is not new; maybe that should be separated into a different topic.
