External Monitor Randomly going Black for a few seconds - XPS 9350

When I hook up an external monitor to my dell xps 9350 via a thunderbolt->hdmi adapter, at seemingly completely random intervals, the external monitor will go black (and will detect no input). The laptop screen is not affected at all. I have no issues with the laptop screen. The intervals can vary between 20-30 min and a few seconds, and happens the same amount irregardless of laptop temperature and how much I'm pushing it. I'm using xf86-video-intel. I've read the skylake page on the arch forums, but can find nothing pertaining to my current kernel.

Kernel Version: 4.7.1.1
xf86-video-intel version: 2.99.917

Thanks!

Re: External Monitor Randomly going Black for a few seconds - XPS 9350

Are you using xrandr to setup your external monitor?  Is your DE doing that for you?  Any msgs in the xorg or journalctl logs when this happens?  Have you tried native modesetting?  Have you tried another adapter?  Have you tried the intel drm nightly kernel?  What kernel params have you set?

Not sure what is the cause atm.  So try to go through these questions as a guiding point.

Edit: just post the logs here in code tags.

Had same problem, after some xrandr update it stopped appearing but instead xrandr started spewing "configure crtc 0 failed" on some commands. Still don't know why, but a fix might be sometimes falling back to modesetting driver (just uninstall xf86-video-intel driver).
