Hello,
My laptop keeps freezing (so far 5 times in the last hour).
It doesnt respond to anything. I have to "hard" shut it down by holding down the power button.
How can i even beggin to figure out what is going on with it?
This is the output of my uname -a:
Linux iluvatar 4.7.2-1-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT Sat Aug 20 23:02:56 CEST 2016 x86_64 GNU/Linux
The only thing it could be related to is that i installed the xf86-video-intel package. But I tried removing it and X wouldnt start any longer.

I just removed the xf86-video-intel packages and the /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf file. I'm back in X and will see if i still have the freezing issues.
Thanks.

Looks like it was the xf86-video-intel driver that was causing the freezing.
Anyone have any idea why?

My laptop is a Skylake as well -- but a Toshiba Satellite Radius 12 4K. I have an issue where, randomly the machine just shuts off and reboots. No Kernel Panic, nothing in the logs, just pook -- gone. A couple of weeks ago I tried removing the xf86-video-intel driver and running that way and it seemed to have stopped. After upgrading to 4.7.2-1 it did the same poweroff/reboot after about 15 minutes.
I reinstalled xf86-video-intel and will test out a bit with that. I just wanted to chime in and make a point that it may not be specifically Dell related. Note: It seems that it occurs primarily when watching YouTube or looking at a lot of image-heavy sites -- like Wallpaper sites or Google Images. I love this little machine, but it's instability is getting on my nerves! I wish I knew better how to troubleshoot this thing!

Did you enable gpu power saving in kernel parameters? That maybe the problem. Besides, mesa driver is also good enough now for Intel graphics.

I feel like I've seen other threads and read where this is likely due to issues with Skylake - have you checked the wiki to see if this is relevant to you or not?

I did not specifically enable/disable anything yet, no. Are you saying I should enable powersaving to see if the problem is fixed, or disable powersaving to see if the problem is fixed. I will do some more searching on this to see what I find out.

Man, you've saved my life. I'm on Macbook Pro 13" (2015), and I also started getting freezes 2 months ago, sometimes 2-3 times a day. Removing xf86-video-intel stopped the freezes completely.
