From https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Le … d_Yoga_900 I understand that I should not attempt installing archlinux on lenovo 900S ML81. Is that true?

Well, it looks like the ink on that warning is still wet (Aug 16) so I would tend to believe it.
OTOH, it probably wouldn't hurt to boot the install media and see if the SDD is recognized.

I bought a Yoga 900 a month or so ago and was not able to mount the internal NVMe SSD, so in my personal experience that warning is valid & currently accurate. If you have one on hand, of course, there's no harm in booting up the media and seeing if you can see the internal storage correctly. But if you're considering buying a new laptop to install Arch on, you should probably skip the Yoga. I ended up returning mine & getting a ThinkPad T460 instead, and I've been really happy with it.

Indeed. I tried multiple distros (Fedora, Debian, Arch) and they do not find any SSD. Where I'm a bit confused is that per https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/So … rives/NVMe I understand that NVMe is supported by the kernel. I probably wouldn't notice the speed difference to AHCI in day to day usage (only in artificial testing: under windows 10, AS SSD gives it 3390 score!) but the Wiki article might need an update.
I'm relucatant to update a UEFI firmware if it is unclear if I can move back. For instance when I want to sell the Yoga 900s.
