[SOLVED] systemd does not launch default getty@tty1

After booting there is no login prompt on tty1, just systemd boot messages.

Switching to tty[2-6} works as expected. A getty@.service is started and a login prompt is shown.

According to the wiki, one getty should be launched by default.

If I manually enable getty@tty1, a prompt will be shown on next boot but why is it not launched automatically?

No display manager is involved. Autologin was enabled in the past but no more.

Re: [SOLVED] systemd does not launch default getty@tty1

tty1 does not respond to any keyboard input until getty@tty1.service is manually started (or had been enabled before booting).

Edit and solved: I did a fresh install in a virtual machine. After the installation there exists a getty@tty1.service that was automatically created but is not owned by any package. It seems that “one getty is launched by default” means that the service is enabled during installation and not that systemd starts getty on tty1 automatically. I assume I disabled the service in the past and therefore had to enable it again.
