Steam doesn't start

Hello. I have an Optimus laptop and use bumblebee with proprietary nvidia drivers. Steam doesn't start at all if it's launched regularly. Using primusrun or optirun Steam reports an error:

Fatal Error: Failed to load steamui.so

I checked all missing 32-bit dependencies and installed all lib32 packages that were missing and the error still remains. I am fairly new to Arch Linux, so please go gentle on me.

Start steam normally, following https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/St … ime_issues and edit the commands of specific games to include primusrun. If you run into any further problems, post the terminal output you get in [ code ] tags

I was able to get steam running with dynamic linker, I am now downloading a game and will report what happens after.

Hope I'm note necrobumping, but I have the same problem. Still get the same error when I run it with the dynamic linker, and the "steam-native" command. This is the output I get when I run it from the command line:

It's not necrobumping, but I fail to see how it's the same problem. Where does it say "Fatal Error: Failed to load steamui.so" in your output? You have a corrupt package file. Remove it and try again.. don't hijack other people's threads.

Right sorry about not placing that particular error message. This is the error message

It doesn't appear in the command line output.

Edit: Followed your suggestion to delete the package, but it's not present in the directory after steam downloads it. It downloads the same file every time i try to restart it, then throws out the error message.

Fair enough, my bad.

I notice in the output that the download fails immediately:

Error: Download of package (runtime_part0_ubuntu12) failed after 0 bytes (0).

But continues to retrieve the file -- perhaps it's a sign that there is a filesystem problem. Can you check the ownership and permissions of that directory and the parent directories? Is there anything at all in that directory?

Tried it a few more times, and now, not only does the download fail and still continue, but it will try to download the same file twice in one try, and not others.

Anyway these are the permission on the directory

Okay, so I got it working. Just copied the files it was complaining about from my previous install and it eventually started working, after complaining about a few missing lib32 libraries.
