Gnome 3 not using .desktop files in /usr/local/share/applications

Hello,

I have a bunch of games installed to /opt, with .desktop files installed to /usr/local/share/applications. Gnome 3 is not adding them to the application list. They work fine otherwise. Desktop files in ~/local/share/applications show up fine, and so do ones added to /usr/share/applications.

This used to work. I reinstalled Arch when I got a new hard drive and can't for the life of me remember how I got this working originally.

I have checked that these desktop files are formatted correctly (not that they have changed since this was last working). Can anyone provide any suggestions? Thanks.

EDIT: I got it. The program executables were in /usr/local/games... adding that to the path in /etc/profile fixed the problem. They all show up in the application list now.
