I'm currently trying to get a good Xmonad setup going on my system for the purpose of using it as my development environment.
After some basic setup of terminal emulators and such I found it quite hard on the eyes to have no space at all between windows, and after som searching i found some info on how to achieve a couple of pixels spacing between windows.
But when i try to compile my config in ~/.xmonad/xmonad.hs it fails with this error message:
xmonad.hs:2:1: error:
Failed to load interface for ‘XMonad.Layout.Spacing’
Use -v to see a list of the files searched for.
Please check the file for errors.here is my xmonad.hs as well:
import XMonad
import XMonad.Layout.Spacing
myLayout = spacing 5 $ Tall 1 (3/100) (1/2)
main = xmonad $ defaultConfig
{ borderWidth = 2
, terminal = "urxvt"
, normalBorderColor = "#cccccc"
, focusedBorderColor = "#cd8b00" }I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong or what I'm missing, and my Haskell knowledge is extremely limited, pretty much non-existent.
Anyone got any ideas?

Do you have xmonad-contrib installed?
You also need to actually do something with myLayout, by setting "layoutHook = myLayout" along with the other settings (terminal, borderWidth, ...).

If you don't know Haskell (and don't want to learn it just to configure xmonad) you might take a look at spectrwm. It was inspired by xmonad and looks a lot like it, but it uses a plain-text config file that includes a tile_gap option that allows you to adjust the spacing between tiles.

That's what was missing, I failed to realize that i needed to install xmonad-contrib!
Thanks Raynman!
2ManyDogs: Thanks for the tip, but I'm currently starting out learning Haskell, and as such xmonad is kind of a deliberate choice on my part! ![]()
