Can't find disks on boot with QEMU

Hello all,

I have been playing with qemu recently, as I love the idea of being able to quickly open up a simple VM from a terminal. It's even nicer to be able to boot a drive that's already connected to my system, such as another hard drive for another OS. However, I have an installation of Arch on a flash drive that I intend to use for maintenance purposes, and when I tried to run a VM with it ('sudo qemu-system-x86_64 -drive file=/dev/sdb,format=raw'), the kernel can't seem to find the root partition on boot. I am using UUIDs to find them, and I did try to use the traditional format by editing the GRUB commands to use /dev/sdb3 for root, but no luck. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.
