[SOLVED] can only change brightness on gdm login screen

Hi, I seem to have a strange issue. Ive done a lot of searching because it seems like there should be a simple fix but I cant find it.

/usr/lib/gnome-settings-daemon/gsd-backlight-helper --set-brightness 325
This program can only be used by the root user

If I try to use my brightness fn keys in the login screen, it works fine. Volume fn keys work also. AFTER logging in, I cannot change the brightness any which way without using the terminal. Brightness slider won't work also. Volume fn keys do NOT work AFTER logging in, but they do work with the volume slider. Strangely enough, they work on the login screen. I have tried booting into the regular gnome session and the gnome wayland session and can reproduce the same problem. this a bug? Am I missing a package? Has the GNOME changed some polices or something? Haven't used Arch outside of a vm in a while. I am running it on an HP Pavillion, 6700hq, nvidia 960m. I have the testing repo enabled and all updates are installed. Any help would be much appreciated.

Linux ancap-laptop 4.7.4-1-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT Thu Sep 15 15:24:29 CEST 2016 x86_64 GNU/Linux

I'm having the same issue on an HP Envy 17, and can confirm that it was working fine until yesterday.

Brightness and volume keys are affected, but Play/Pause and Airplane keys are not.

Do you have any idea which package(s) are the culprit? I plan to file a bug if I still have the problem on Gnome 3.22.

I can tell you that it was fixed after I uninstalled and reinstalled xf86-input-libinput, but I don't know if that was the real reason it's working now, or because of a wayland update that happened at the same time. I was a little desperate and was trying lots of things at that point, so I never worked it out.

Note, I'm using GNOME on Wayland.
