VirtualBox - Virtual system got aborted after login

Hi,
I got strange issue with VirtualBox (5.1.4 and 5.1.6). When I run virtual machine (latest Debian + CentOS), I got to screen for login, I provide credentials and then my virtual machine crashes. No error message, nothing, just aborted state in VirtualBox window. CLI version of virtual system (Metasploitable distro) works fine. So I thought it is because of desktop enviroment but login screen works fine so I got no idea what could cause this issue. Any advice how to fix it?
Thanks

Re: VirtualBox - Virtual system got aborted after login

It looks like a regression since 5.1 VirtualBox, and worse in 5.1.4. There are older threads and bugs from 4.3 editions doing same/similar thing. 5.0.24 was flawless. I haven't tried downgrading yet but don't get 24hrs w/o guest aborting now. Maybe dmesg shows you a related segfault involving VBoxDD.so? Some threads say to disable mouse integration, some say disable USB2.0 but leave USB enabled - which isn't a gui option, USB1.0, 2.0 and 3.0 are selectable options but no option to disable all three and leave USB enabled. I get the instant aborts with Win7pro64bit guest. Haven't checked the XP guest or Ubuntu guest long enough to see if aborting too.

[EDIT] since 5.16 and switching the Windows 7 guest to USB 3.0 so far up and running without aborts 4+ days (excluding an electric company coarse-zero-adjust in between...), didn't have any problems with XP, Ubuntu, or Arch guests on Arch host. I'm xf86-video-ati since VBox 4.0.? The aborts I was getting were always after logged on, they'd happen when opening files in the Win7pro64 guest.

Re: VirtualBox - Virtual system got aborted after login

Try to check if the video driver you're using is appropriate. I had the same problem and was using VB 5.1. As WFV said, problems seem to get worse concerning this.
I was using the catalyst driver and switched to the open source driver, as i couldn't bring it to work with the proprietary driver. I don't know whether you're using a nvidia, amd or intel graphics card, but try giving the open source driver a chance. Its often better maintained.

Re: VirtualBox - Virtual system got aborted after login

I am using mesa drivers on notebook with integrated graphic card (i5 proc). One more interesting thing - when I came back to work and tried these virtual machines everything worked fine, I restarted these a few times and then immediately I got aborts again. First one appeared when I turned of CentOS virtual machine using "poweroff" and that poweroff command led in first abort. Then every other virtual machine aborts when logging in also. The only output of dmesg I got is this:

[18824.362894] vboxdrv: ffffffffa0cb3020 VMMR0.r0
[18824.447544] vboxdrv: ffffffffa0b07020 VBoxDDR0.r0

[EDIT]
One more interesting thing! It doesn't work because of reboot, it works when I start virtual machine without desktop environment first and then I start whichever virtual machine with desktop environment! Got no idea why it works this way but it works for me.
