Display issue after upgrade to 4.7.2 or 4.7.1

System
Dell M3800 with Nvidia Quadro K1100M
Arch 4.7.2 with KDE Plasma Desktop

Scenario 1
Approx a month ago i upgraded from kernel 4.6.3 to 4.7.1 along with other packages.
After upgrade i was able to login to KDE desktop but after some time display suddenly go blank with few diagonal lines.
It happens suddenly with no pattern. Sometimes i happens within 1 or 2 minute, but some times i was able to work up to 10 minutes.

Once display go blank, keyboard also stop working, I tried to switch to different ttys [Ctrl-Alt-Fn sequence] but no luck, the only option is to keep pressing power button to turn it off.
I was thinking there could be some issue with drivers, so i rollback entire upgrade and revert back to 4.6.3 by doing a restore from backup.

Scenario 2
After waiting a long, i see a new update for 4.7.2. So today i did an upgraded to it.
But unfortunately, still getting the same issue.

But this time i do not want to go back to 4.6.3, instead want to fix the issue.
What i already did is, i downgraded mesa and intel packages to the version that i was using with 4.6.3, but it doesn't make any difference.
Here are packages that i have installed now

lib32-mesa-11.2.2-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz
lib32-mesa-libgl-11.2.2-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz
mesa-11.2.2-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz
mesa-libgl-11.2.2-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz
xf86-video-intel-1__2.99.917+676+g26f8ab5-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz

What else i should do to fix the issue.
Please suggest.

Re: Display issue after upgrade to 4.7.2 or 4.7.1

Forget to mention, my laptop has two graphic cards
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 4th Gen Core Processor Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 06)
02:00.0 3D controller: NVIDIA Corporation GK107GLM [Quadro K1100M] (rev a1)

I do not know which one is being used.

Re: Display issue after upgrade to 4.7.2 or 4.7.1

Got following from Xorg.0.log

[ 2311.124] (WW) xf86CloseConsole: KDSETMODE failed: Input/output error
[ 2311.124] (WW) xf86CloseConsole: VT_GETMODE failed: Input/output error
[ 2311.124] (EE)
Fatal server error:
[ 2311.124] (EE) xf86CloseConsole: VT_ACTIVATE failed: Input/output error
[ 2311.124] (EE)
[ 2311.124] (EE)
Please consult the The X.Org Foundation support
         at http://wiki.x.org
 for help.
[ 2311.124] (EE) Please also check the log file at "/home/samtech/.local/share/xorg/Xorg.0.log" for addi$
[ 2311.124] (EE)
[ 2311.124] (WW) xf86CloseConsole: KDSETMODE failed: Input/output error
[ 2311.124] (WW) xf86CloseConsole: VT_GETMODE failed: Input/output error

Could fix the issue but found a workaround.
Immediately after starting KDE session, if i switch to tty2 [Ctrl+Alt+Fn2] then again switch back to tty1 [Ctrl+Alt+Fn1] then problem doesn't happen.

Is there any linux guru who can help to find out root cause of this issue? i can provide required logs etc.

I can live with above trick but it will be good to fix it from the ground, may other users also getting same issue.

Re: Display issue after upgrade to 4.7.2 or 4.7.1

I'm getting some of the same error messages (specifically the xf86CloseConsole ones) and X crashing right when I startx with i3 but then working when I try it again. I've also had diagonal lines, etc garbling the screen sometimes. I removed xf86-video-intel and now don't seem to have the issue. I know you tried downgrading, but have you tried completely removing it?

xf86-video-intel is not required for using Xorg. Xorg will fallback to modesetting. See the first note on the wiki page: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Intel_graphics
