Alsa suddenly not working

Strange thing happening today : I have no sound anymore sad I made an update last night (last update was a long time ago).
I tried to run alsaconf and I got this message :

Configuring snd-***
Do you want to modify debug ?
Configuring [lib/liblow.c(210)]:
Do you want to modify /etc/modprobe.conf ?

I'm running 2.6.16-beyond4-1
I tried on my 2.6.16-ck1 and got the same error message hmm
I have two sounds cards (audigy 4 using emu10k1 module and integrated soundcard using intel8x0 module) and didn't have problem in the past using them. I really don't know what's happening sad

Thanks for helping.

Re: Alsa suddenly not working

Hello!

I think there was some change in a update of alsa sometime ago:

From the wiki:

NOTE ON UDEV AUTODETECTION: Old arch installations or new installations from the 0.7.1 CD (recent FTP installations are not affected) will have an old default setting in /etc/modprobe.conf that WILL BREAK SOUND AUTODETECTION. If your sound modules are not loaded automatically after installation or udev update, please REMOVE THESE LINES FROM /etc/modprobe.conf:

# OSS Compatibility
install snd-pcm modprobe -i snd-pcm ; modprobe snd-pcm-oss ; true
install snd-seq modprobe -i snd-seq ; modprobe snd-seq-oss ; true

After REMOVING these, sound should be autodetected properly on (re)boot. Also NEVER use alsaconf if you have a PCI or ISAPNP sound card, the entries alsaconf adds to the modprobe.conf file might have a similar effect on udev's autodetection.

Re: Alsa suddenly not working

It seems it's the origin of the problem because I can ge't sound but not on the card I want. Could someone post his/her /etc/modprobe.conf because mine is completely f***** up by alsaconf ?
