telegram desktop notification count

I've installed telegram-desktop 0.10.7-1 including all the required dependencies. I got the notification icon in the tray with a counter badge. However, this badge permanently shows "2" and it won't clear. I've reset the settings, restarted, disabled/enabled notifications, etc. Nothing seems to reset it.

When I receive new chat messages, the counter works and counts up from 1. When I read them, it resets back to 2.

Any ideas?
