I hope this thread itself might go some way to helping people reconsider their sigs. I remember, when I first came here, mine was huge and had my system specs in it. I thought that would be useful for troubleshooting at the time. Then I realized it didn't really make any difference and no-one cared otherwise...

The signatures at this forum are actually far more tame than many I've seen. In fact, other forums would probably consider themselves blessed to have the few instances that can be noticed around here. People are generally respectful of each other here and I think that contributes to not having signature billboards or long-winded text floating around in the threads.

It would not seem to be much trouble to simply place a blurb about this subject in the forum guidelines and then (when needed) send a polite PM to anyone who goes a little overboard.

I dunno if we will have rules but when I write the forum guide it will say "People don't like big signatures, so don't use them if you want people to like you" or something to that effect. Peer pressure can be better than authority and self-moderation is much more effective than enforced rules

Yep, as of this post, and according to the poll, only 7% are saying that aren't bothered by them at all with the remainder saying they are bothersome.
