Can't find any network using iw and wifi-menu

Hi everyone, I installed for the first time Arch on my HP probook after some other succesful installations on desktop computers, but I have never had to deal with wifi.

During the installation I couldn't connect to wifi, so I used an ethernet cable, but now I'd like to find out why is not working.

Using wifi-menu the output is:

Scanning for networks... failed
No networks found

I'll try to include every passage in the wiki with the relative output:

$ iw dev
phy#0
	Interface wlo1
		ifindex 3
		wdev 0x1
		addr 2c:33:7a:80:34:3b
		type managed
$ iw dev wlo1 link
Not connected.
$ sudo ip link set wlo1 up
$ ip link show wlo1
3: wlo1: <NO-CARRIER,BROADCAST,MULTICAST,UP> mtu 1500 qdisc mq state DOWN mode DEFAULT group default qlen 1000
    link/ether 2c:33:7a:80:34:3b brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff
Scanning for networks... failed
No networks found

and

$iw dev wlo1 scan

doesn't return anything.

What else do you need to help me troubleshooting?

Thanks for the help.

Some devices  have some unique personalities.  What hardware have you?  Post the output of lspci -nn
Also, have you checked that the output of rfkill list  to see if you are hard or soft blocked?
(rfkill is provided by core/rfkill)

Re: Can't find any network using iw and wifi-menu

It is my belief that should just work hmm
You are not blocked, and the driver is (according to our wiki) supported.

Your scan command, with the '$' prompt would imply you ran that as a regular user.  If you tried that, it should have told you yo did not have the permissions to run it?
Did you run that as root?
Also, I note that the network shows as being down.  Try
sudo ip link set wlo1 up
Then try the scan.

Re: Can't find any network using iw and wifi-menu

Yeah, I ran it as a root, I've just written here the command like that tongue

Where can you see the network down?
If it's here:

wlo1: <NO-CARRIER,BROADCAST,MULTICAST,UP> mtu 1500 qdisc mq state DOWN mode DEFAULT group default qlen 1000
    link/ether 2c:33:7a:80:34:3b brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff

shouldn't be the <...,...,...,UP> showing that the network is up?

I found this: http://ghoshbishakh.github.io/blog/blog … be-hp.html and I'm gonna try this solution as soon as possible hmm

Re: Can't find any network using iw and wifi-menu

On my system

ewaller@turing/home/ewaller[2] % sudo ip link set wlo1 down
[sudo] password for ewaller:
ewaller@turing/home/ewaller % ip link
1: lo: <LOOPBACK,UP,LOWER_UP> mtu 65536 qdisc noqueue state UNKNOWN mode DEFAULT group default qlen 1
    link/loopback 00:00:00:00:00:00 brd 00:00:00:00:00:00
2: eno1: <NO-CARRIER,BROADCAST,MULTICAST,UP> mtu 1500 qdisc fq_codel state DOWN mode DEFAULT group default qlen 1000
    link/ether d0:bf:9c:97:e9:4c brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff
3: wlo1: <BROADCAST,MULTICAST> mtu 1500 qdisc mq state DOWN mode DORMANT group default qlen 1000
    link/ether 34:e6:ad:17:fe:53 brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff
ewaller@turing/home/ewaller % sudo ip link set wlo1 up
ewaller@turing/home/ewaller % ip link
1: lo: <LOOPBACK,UP,LOWER_UP> mtu 65536 qdisc noqueue state UNKNOWN mode DEFAULT group default qlen 1
    link/loopback 00:00:00:00:00:00 brd 00:00:00:00:00:00
2: eno1: <NO-CARRIER,BROADCAST,MULTICAST,UP> mtu 1500 qdisc fq_codel state DOWN mode DEFAULT group default qlen 1000
    link/ether d0:bf:9c:97:e9:4c brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff
3: wlo1: <BROADCAST,MULTICAST,UP,LOWER_UP> mtu 1500 qdisc mq state UP mode DORMANT group default qlen 1000
    link/ether 34:e6:ad:17:fe:53 brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff
ewaller@turing/home/ewaller %

I had a link until I set it down.  Note that the state DOWN,  But, I did not have the UP inside the <> as did you hmm
When I put it back up, the state when to UP, and I got back <,,,,,LOWER_UP>.  I'm not exactly sure what that means, but I am more interested in the state.

Re: Can't find any network using iw and wifi-menu

When the interface is down I get this:

wlo1: <BROADCAST,MULTICAST> mtu 1500 qdisc mq state DOWN mode DEFAULT group default qlen 1000
    link/ether 2c:33:7a:80:34:3b brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff
