I've been having an issue recently where the repainting of some lines is delayed when using apps like vim, less, and htop in urxvt. Usually it's just lines on the lower half of the terminal. It's especially frustrating when navigating lines with j and k in vim. I wish I could describe it better, but I'm hoping that someone who reads this has experienced the same thing and knows what I'm describing.
I'm running Arch on an Acer Aspire M5-583 with Intel HD graphics. I reproduced the issue under xmonad and i3, with and without compton running. I haven't been able to reproduce it in anything other than urxvt. I replaced my ram recently, I think it was around the time this started. That's the only thing that I can think of that could be a potential cause, but I don't feel like that should affect it.
Any ideas what could be causing this?

Please paste the output of `echo $TERM` in urxvt and some other terminal (xterm, for example).

It's xterm-256color everywhere. I have `TERM=xterm-256color` in my .zshrc for unrelated reasons, but commenting that line out and sourcing .zshrc again/reloading the terminal so that it's rxvt-unicode-256color has no effect on the problem.

Forcing TERM will almost always break your terminal capabilities. Whatever those unrelated reasons are, they are misplaced.

I think it had to do with ssh/tmux and my shared .zshrc, but you're right; I should find a different solution to whatever that was solving.
Anyway, removing the forced TERM assignment had no effect on the problem that I asked about. Do you have any other ideas about that?

Paste your .Xresources (if it is restricted to urxvt).

Please use code tags when pasting to the boards: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Co … s_and_code
Nothing obvious in there. Have you tried removing/renaming it to rule out a configuration issue?

Thanks for the link, I fixed the pasted code. I hadn't tried that, but I just did and I haven't been able to reproduce the problem. I'll comment out some of the xresources lines one at a time to see which one made the difference. Any predictions?

fading would be my first guess (because I have no idea what it is supposed to do, but it doesn't sound like something I want in a terminal)...

Fading makes the terminal a bit darker when it's not the focused window. It's really nice to have when I have a few open in a workspace and lets me see which one has keyboard focus at a quick glance.

Still try to disable it? Could easily be the trigger of the bug in urxvt.

Disabling fading didn't solve it. I'm going to try to see if any of the perl extensions are affecting it.

Divide and conquer. You know it works with no Xresources file. You know if fails with the full Xresources file. I'd not bother with trying one setting at a time, just comment out the top half of the file. If the problem is in the top half split that in half and repeat. Otherwise the problem is in the bottom half, split that in half and repeat.
(edit: half is meant a ballpark proportion: a few settings may depend on previous settings being present, keep these together obviously.)

I just tried that and could find the culprit, so I tried removing everything again and this time was able to recreate the problem. (It's very inconsistent.) Looks like the problem isn't in .Xresources. Any other ideas?
