Cannot launch gtk applications

Hello,

My Arch system is broken since the last update. I am unable to launch any gtk application. When I try to launch from the terminal it says :

symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/libgtk-3.so.0: undefined symbol: g_log_structured

Also automount usb device in the file explorer is not working anymore. I tried to reinstall udisks (then install udisks2), but it didn't work.

What can I do to sort this out?

Did you do a partial update or a full update?  (Smells a bit like a partial update)

Ensure you have done a pacman -Syu

Show us relevant pacman log.  Which app are you starting? What DE?  What fontconfig?

All gtk applications seem to fail to launch : file-roller, engrampa, firefox, transmission-gtk...

I am using openbox. I also tried to install mate instead but I have the same problems.

I did yaourt -Syu --aur to update all packages. But it still says :

symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/libgtk-3.so.0: undefined symbol: g_log_structured

when i itry to launch gtk applications

So you are using the testing repository and it started after your update pulled in the gtk/gnome 3.22 release.

What is the output of

$ objdump -R /usr/lib/libgtk-3.so.0 | grep g_log

Maybe it's gtk/gnome 3.22. I am using testing repository with no problem till now... maybe I should disable this repository next time. I there any workaround for my current system?

Yes, I'd disable the testing repo and go back to using old packages if I were you.

A little off topic but, why enable testing?  Are you looking to contribute and write bug reports?  Did you need a particular program version that was in testing?  Another reason?  If there is no reason to enable testing, then disable it and sync to regular repo.

As of my update today (gtk3 3.20.9-1 -> 3.22.1+8+ge11df6c-2), I'm having exactly the same issue.  I rolled gtk3 back to 3.20.9-1 and everything is behaving again in the mean time while I try and figure out what that update doesn't like.

I just had the same problem (NOT using the testing repo). Downgrading gtk3 to gtk3 3.20.9-1 solved it. Maybe this should be reported as a bug?

For me the problem was in installed glib2-patched-thumbnailer from AUR. Just install glib2 from the official repositories.
