Xterm doesn't fallback on unknown characters

Hello,

I installed Oh My Zsh with the Bullet Train theme and some Powerline fonts.
In my ~/.Xresources I added:

XTerm*faceName: Terminess Powerline:size=10

Problem is, this font lacks characters that Bullet Train uses. If you look at its gif, there is a dot for background jobs, a cross and tick mark for git repos...
URxvt seems to fallback to another font when the one used doesn't provide a character, gnome-terminal has the same behaviour.
But with Xterm I can't get it to work: every font I tried was missing something at some point, so Xterm displays nothing or an empty square.

Is there a solution for it or I must use an other terminal emulator?
