Hello,
it's my first time I'm trying to setup an Arch installation but so far I've got along quite fine.
I've installed GDM as display manager and Budgie as my desktop environment, Gnome got also installed.
The one thing that's driving me crazy is the keyboard layout. It just doesn't accept any settings which should set the layout to german. GDM though, at login, uses german layout.
I used
localectl set-x11-keymap deand
localectl set-keymap de-latin1and it created a file "00-keyboard.conf" under "/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d". Apart from this file, there's nothing in there.
localectl statusreturns
System Locale: LANG=de_DE.UTF-8
VC Keymap: de-latin1
X11 Layout: de
X11 Model: pc105
X11 Options: terminate:ctrl_alt_bkspThis can be found in said "00-keyboard.conf" file.
I also tried adding
Option "XkbLayout" "de"to "usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-evdev.conf" under the "evdev keyboard catchall" identifier section, to no avail. This file can't be found under "/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d", in contrast to what I read in another thread.
I'm not really proficient in any of this. I only used mostly Ubuntu or some derivates like elementary OS up to now but as I got that far and such a simple thing doesn't want to give up it's resistance, I also don't want to.
Thanks for any help, I'll be happy to give you any needed further information.

That probably means that GNOME is overwriting your settings. Stupid question, but did you try using GNOME's settings to change the keyboard layout?

Yes, I tried, I had Deutsch(=german) and English (US) to choose from, as expected but selecting german didn't change a thing. Just tried again.
What I didn't do before though, was deleting the english layout. I did that right now and I got the german layout immediately. Also rebooted just to be sure it stays and it does.
Although it's working it seems weird to me. Is this the way it should behave?
