libreoffice writer starts hanging / "lagging" after a while

Hi!

Libreoffice Write runs smoothly at first, but if I leave it open for a while, it starts "lagging": scrolling trough the document is slow with intermittent freezes, which forces me to close it and start it again (after that, it runs smoothly - for a while).

Feeding a few mousewheel scrolls to the writer window, I can see jump X cpu usage jump to the top. Openoffice itsself  is nowhere near the top. Also there's still plenty of cpu left (one of the cores might be at 100% for a short time, though).

Memory is fine - 60% free.

Total I/O is close to idle and does not change during freezes.

I tried increasing the amount of memory (and "memory time") openoffice is allowed to use - no change. Also the problem has been constant for at least half a year now.

I'm running arch on x86_64, using linux-ck (problem occurs with stock kernel, too, though) and nvidia driver. Don't have those freezes anywhere else. No ideas where I should begin investigating this problem. Any hints?

Are you suspending/hibernating before it happens?

I hibernate frequently and don't remember ever finding a still working libreoffice window after thawing, but the problem is not exclusive to that. It occurs too, when I just leave the window open / machine running normally.

Still the same problem. Even very big documents run smoothly on start but get slower and laggier with time until writer is unusable... tried reinstalling libreoffice (+ removing all configuration) because I ran out of stuff to try. Didn't help.

Anyone an idea what I can try to figure this out? Anything in particular I should take a closer look at?

It's kind of a long shot since my installation of LibreOffice outputs few debug messages, but you could try running it from the terminal and see if any output shows up that could shed light on the problem.

Re: libreoffice writer starts hanging / "lagging" after a while

Hello whoops,

Its not libreoffice. I'm pretty certain its something else. I have the same problem as you, started a few weeks ago. I noticed while typing away libreoffice seemed to lag intermittently, its very annoying the cursor will flash normally on text then disappear for a few seconds, I couldn't scroll the screen or anything, this would happen every few seconds. To me it looks like X isn't updating the screen, if I tab to another program and back the screen updates right away. Other programs seem OK so like you I was looking at every option of libreoffice. Then I noticed this was happening in firefox too, except its even worse with that program especially if on youtube. The screen again does not seem to be updating for those two programs, its very intermittent and again I have to tab out and back to the program to get the screen to refresh. Can't figure it out at all.

Hope this sheds a bit more light on the problem.
