Persistence of settings in Arch Linux

I'm running 64 bit Arch Linux on a UX31E using GNOME as my desktop environment. I've noticed that some of the settings do not stay between shut downs/restarts. Two that come to mind are the brightness settings, which I usually set the the lowest possible setting but for some reason when the computer is restarted, returns to about 10 percent or so. The other is Evolution, which I usually try to keep maximized so I can read it, but the when computer is restarted is always at the non maximized size (for everyone's information, I have Tweak Tool starting Evolution on startup). Most of the information for this sort of thing I've found seems to stem from editing the commands to start, but since these parts of the OS are controlled elsewhere, I'm not sure what help that is. Anyone got any ideas? Let me know if more info is needed or I'm not being clear.

Thanks!

Try dconf-editor or perhaps gsettings(1) if you're feeling adventurous smile

I don't think that will help with the backlight level though, you may have to add a startup script to set that or something.

Re: Persistence of settings in Arch Linux

Well, I was going to try that, and then something weirder happened!

I installed pending updates at shutdown and noticed that there were a large amount of Gnome-based applications seemed to be updating. When I turned the computer back on, I noticed the following:

-Exactly one of my numix circle icons no longer displays correctly (Files)
-Evolution does start on startup but no longer appears in the "System Tray" on the left hand side like Dropbox and KeePassX do
-On the second restart, I noticed that Evolution did remain fullscreen (yet to see if that remains the case though)
-My two finger scrolling was no reversed (up scrolls down, down scrolls up) and tap to click no longer works.

So this should be interesting to figure out...
