one liner to compile core/extra package locally?

The Arch Build System https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Arch_Build_System requires several steps to recompile a binary package locally.

It seems like it could be automated into a one liner with some useful options, has anybody created a convenient way of doing this?

It would be great to have a command to recompile locally (with local opts) or to build with debugging symbols and not strip.

I'd hoped that yaourt would do something like this, but apparently yaourt only does compiles for AUR packages.

(I'm not asking for advise on writing a shell script to do the above, I know how to do that: I'm asking if something already exists)

Asp is the most efficient tool I am aware of.

Seems there are a few AUR helpers which also have ABS support. Take a look here.

I have personally used aura for this purpose for a while and currently use asp, as JWR suggested. Asp does not build though.
