Hi all, I am fairly new to Arch (half a year) and new to the forums.
So I have an issue with xfce4-terminal and xfce4-power-manager-settings, trying to open them results in a segfault. The journal logs are below:
Oct 20 10:44:09 kevintham kernel: xfce4-power-man[4442]: segfault at 8 ip 00007f7dc2f22601 sp 00007ffdf44b2b50 error 4 in ld-2.24.so[7f7dc2f17000+23000]

Trying to run the terminal emulator from the start bar gives the error: "Failed to execute default Terminal Emulator. Input/output error."
I couldn't really find out what to do with this from the internet and I don't know what else I can look at. If anybody here who is willing to help requires more information please let me know.
Thanks in advance.

May I ask when was the last time you did a full system upgrade (pacman -Syu)?
To me your error looks like your terminal is up to date and assuming features of libraries that your older versions do not have.

If there are any size mismatches reinstall the package

I tried what you suggested and returned:

There are no size mismatches.
If I remember correctly the cache could have been full when I upgraded that time thus the failure...
Edit:
It seems that after that system upgrade failure on [2016-10-13 19:23], my pdf viewer Zathura also had issues:

Sorry mistake in reading the log should have been gtk3 not json-glib that was the last package that was written correctly.
From the log it looks like you tried to reinstall it with
pacman -S gtk3
But the ldconfig errors
[2016-10-15 21:55] [ALPM-SCRIPTLET] ldconfig: /usr/lib/libgailutil-3.so.0.0.0 is not an ELF file - it has the wrong magic bytes at the start.
Still appear afterwards so would check that package for size mismatches.

Apparently no size mismatches too:
[kevintham@kevintham ~]$ pacman -Qkk gtk3

Sanity check to compare the library ldconfig is complaining about

For me:
$ file /usr/lib/libgailutil-3.so.0.0.0
/usr/lib/libgailutil-3.so.0.0.0: data
$ ls -la /usr/lib/libgailutil-3.so.0.0.0
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 35552 Oct 10 17:33 /usr/lib/libgailutil-3.so.0.0.0

$ pacman -Q gtk3
gtk3 3.22.1+8+ge11df6c-2
Now something looks very wrong... I guess I need to replace libgailutil-3.so.0.0.0?
Offline
Ok starting to make sense now the gtk3 package is corrupted on that system but pacman recorded the corrupted sizes in its database so pacman -Qkk reports no changes.
Would start with
pacman -S gtk3
Check if that changes the results for libgailutil-3.so.0.0.0
If not see https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Pa … 9.22_error
Edit:
That was not correct
This only refers to /usr/lib/libgailutil-3.so.0.0.0 which is supplied by the gtk3 package.
The file size, ownership and timestamp matches so pacman -Qkk detects no changes.
Unfortunately the contents is different as proven by file not recognising it and sha256shum generating a different hash.

Sorry do you mean remove and then reinstall?
Offline
No I just meant try reinstalling it without a removal.
Removing would prove a problem because I suspect you will have a lot of packages depending upon gtk3 so unless you did
pacman -Rdd gtk3
You would not be able to uninstall it without also removing all the dependancies.
Offline
Trying to reinstall results in an error occuring: all the files already exist in the file system. Should I remove the corrupt file before attempting to reinstall?
Offline
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Pa … 9.22_error
pacman -S --force gtk3
Offline
Thank you everyone here for your help,
pacman -S --force gtk3
has indeed solved my issues with the terminal and power manager.
So to conclude before I mark this thread as solved, both xfce4-terminal and xfce4-power-manager both require libgailutil-3.so.0.0.0 to work, but it was corrupted and hence both applications could not function?
Edit:
Using pactree I found that that is indeed the case, so I shall mark this thread as solved.
