I'm using XFCE at the moment even though I have Gnome installed too.
I wanted to have the possibility of locking the session so I switched to lightdm from gdm and installed light-locker. Now every time I wake my laptop from sleep by opening the lid, I get the following error notification:
GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.login1.OperationinProgress: There's already a shutdown or sleep operation in progress
dmesg
does not reveal anything that seems related to this minor annoyance.
This is no big deal but I would like to get rid of this notification. Any ideas where to look?

I uninstalled light-locker and the error message is still appearing. So maybe this issue is not related to light-locker after all.

I suspect the issue was due to lightdm. I replaced lightdm with gdm for another not related reason and the problem went away.

I had the same issue. In my case it was XFCE4 Power Manager and TLP trying to put my laptop to sleep at the same time. I disabled the setting in Power Manager and the problem was solved.

I spoke too soon. Replacing lightdm with gdm did not solve the problem.
Thanks k3v0 for your help, but I do not have TLP installed.
In power manager, if I set the laptop to switch off display only instead of suspend when closing the lip the laptop does just that: it doesn't suspend.
I noticed that this issue is only present when closing the lid and not when I press the suspend button.

Running
xfconf-query -c xfce4-power-manager -p /xfce4-power-manager/logind-handle-lid-switch -n -t bool -s true
seems to have solved the problem.
