Exaile - GTK+ Amarok clone

http://www.exaile.org/

This looks mint. It'd be great to have all the functionality of Amarok without the bloated libraries associated. Could someone make that dream come true? ^_^

The svn link is

# svn checkout svn://jbother.org/usr/local/svn/exaile

That's the best way to go, since they've got no source code on their site, and instead just a link to the v0.1 .deb package .

Re: Exaile - GTK+ Amarok clone

looks kinda neat.
I am currently using quod libet, and it looks like exaile has a regular expression playlist filter too. yay.

Re: Exaile - GTK+ Amarok clone

Hmm, I get:

svn: Can't open config file '/home/dave/.subversion/servers'

Any idea what's causing this?

this thread illustrates the same problem, but the solution of deleting the 'touch' line from the PKGBUILD doesn't work for me :shock:

Edit: I realised that the 'touch'd .subversion in my $HOME was a file, so I made a folder of the same name to take its place, and all is good smile

Re: Exaile - GTK+ Amarok clone

Now to fix problems when running the app :

playing has been stopped on 'Signal And Sign'
** Message: don't know how to handle application/x-id3

That's the message I get when trying to play something in it; it just stops as soon as I press play.

Edit: It looks like you need to add 'gstreamer-plugins' as a dependency too russianpirate; installing them fixed the problem big_smile

Thanks again for the pkgbuild wink

Edit 2:  'libgpod' is needed for ipod support, but is not needed for playing tracks.. I'll leave the decision to you whether or not to include it as a dependency smile

No, genuinely appreciative. It's about time that we had something like amaroK for GTK.

Re: Exaile - GTK+ Amarok clone

Why is there no 'Information' tab in the player, that allows you to select 'lyrics' etc? It's shown in the screenies, and svn must be the latest version.

Hmm...  :?

Re: Exaile - GTK+ Amarok clone

Here's the PKGBUILD I got before it went down, modified to fix the things I mentioned above:

# Contributor : russianpirate

pkgname=exaile-svn
pkgver=1
pkgrel=1
pkgdesc="Exaile is a media player similar to Amarok, but based on GTK+"
url="http://www.exaile.org"
depends=(gtk2 wxpython pyvorbis pyogg pymad gst-python pyxml pil python-pysqlite gstreamer-plugins libgpod)
conflicts=(exaile)
provides=()
source=()
md5sums=()

build() {
  cd $startdir/src
  mkdir $HOME/.subversion
  msg "Downloading the latest Exaile SVN..."
  svn checkout svn://jbother.org/usr/local/svn/exaile > /dev/null
  msg "Finished downloading!"
  sleep 2
  cd exaile
  make
  make install PREFIX=$startdir/pkg/usr
}

Re: Exaile - GTK+ Amarok clone

I actually had a problem with gstreamer-plugins.  It kept saying i needed it as a dependency, even though it is installed.  So i removed that dependency ant its working great.

I wonder if this project will have podcast support?

Re: Exaile - GTK+ Amarok clone

Do you guys have any idea what part of gstreamer-plugins exaile needs? I use gstreamer0.10 so instealling gstreamer-plugins involves installing 40 some odd packages, which I'd like to avoid.

Re: Exaile - GTK+ Amarok clone

Have any of you had a chance to try this with an IPod, I get the following error on the command line when my ipod is mounted and I start exaile.

File "/usr/bin/exaile", line 1904, in ?
    main()
  File "/usr/bin/exaile", line 1893, in main
    exaile = ExaileWindow(fr)
  File "/usr/bin/exaile", line 200, in __init__
    self.ipod_panel.LoadTree('refresh')
  File "/usr/share/exaile/xl/panels.py", line 694, in LoadTree
    self.ConnectiPod()
  File "/usr/share/exaile/xl/panels.py", line 607, in ConnectiPod
    self.all.append(track)
  File "/usr/share/exaile/xl/tracks.py", line 64, in append
    self.paths[track.loc] = track
AttributeError: 'NoneType' object has no attribute 'loc'

When my Ipod isnt mounted it works great.

Re: Exaile - GTK+ Amarok clone

if you want ipod support (when its mounted) then run 'pacman -S libgpod'

i would recommend gst-plugins-mad gst-plugins-ogg gst-plugins-shout gst-plugins-vorbis and if you want arts or esd support then gst-plugins-arts or gst-plugins-esd wink
