Arch Linux has frozen twice with 4.8.4-1 ck-core2 kernel a few minutes after start (Intel E3200, G41 chipset) running only firefox. I think I never had this problem before with ck-core2 kernel.
Offline
I also had several freezes with 4.8.3 and 4.8.4 ivybridge. Just checking now if it also happens with the core kernel

Yes have been experiencing some hard lockups recently, not sure if it was kernel or some application I'm running, but kernel would make more sense...for has been going for the last few kernels...not sure if stock works better ... maybe I should try it...
I may have to CONSOLE you about your usage of ridiculously easy graphical interfaces...
Look ma, no mouse.
Offline
I have seen at least one bug report against the 4.8 series of the official ARCH kernel as well so it could be unrelated to BFS/MuQSS.

Booted to stock, not locking up atm...

I've also been having hard lockups on boot using linux-ck since the jump to 4.8. Stock kernel as well as ck 4.7.* work fine.
Offline
Anyone having issues with 4.8 kernels and bfs, should try if applying these pending bugfix patches would help: http://ck.kolivas.org/patches/bfs/4.0/4.8/Pending/
Alternatively you could try if MuQSS works any better for you.
Offline
stock works fine so far for me. I even tried ck with noop, but still freezes, so I would consider something in the ck patchset
Offline
Last ck-piledriver works flawless for me.

Just out of curiosity, how do you choose the building order of your flavored kernels (bobcat, atom, etc...)?

No rhyme or reason really... the generic version is built first and I verify that I can boot into it and see if the modules need a rebuild at that time as well. Beyond that, they just get queued up and built according to my config file that feeds the script.

Hi, I have some issues with the new kernel.
If I just update the kernel without new nvidia-ck-piledriver (failed dependencies with nvidia-utils) I cannot startx.
modprobe: ERROR: could not insert 'nvidia': Exec format error
(EE)
Fatal server error:
(EE) no screens found(EE)
(EE)
Please consult the The X.Org Foundation support
at http://wiki.x.org
for help.
(EE) Please also check the log file at "/var/log/Xorg.0.log" for additional information.
(EE)
(EE) Server terminated with error (1). Closing log file.
xinit: giving up
xinit: unable to connect to X server: Connection refused
xinit: unexpected signal 2
If I update the kernel AND nvidia-ck-piledriver with nvidia-utils, nvidia-libgl, nvidia-libgl from testing repo (for dependencies...) I have the same error.
If I start from actual vanilla core/kernel with testing/nvidia testing/nvidia-utils and testing/nvidia-libgl, everything is fine... :$

Hello,
With nvidia-ck-skylake (and linux-ck-skylake 4.8.4-4), X doesn't start anymore. On the orher hand, with nvidia-dkms, X start without problem.

Not quite... nvidia-utils-370.28-1 is in [extra] but nvidia-utils-375.10-1 is in [testing]... I saw it disappear from in [staging] a few days ago and assumed it got pushed into [extra] not [testing]. That is the problem. I will need to rebuild against 370.28 not 375.10. Give me a few and thank you for reporting.
EDIT: Please try nvidia-ck 1:370.28-7 from the AUR or wait 15 min for [repo-ck] to update and issue `pacman -Syyu` to pull down the 370.28 package for your arch. Note as with any nvidia rebuild, you will need to reboot after installation.

I got the same errors with "modprobe vboxdrv" from virtualbox-ck-host-modules-skylake 5.1.8-2 and linux-ck-skylake 4.8.4-4.

@flocke - I see what went wrong. I streamlined my build script and in doing so introduced a flaw in the logic I used to determine the current version of the headers against which all modules are built. I have fixed this now and am rebuilding all modules. They should be pushed to [repo-ck] shortly. Thank you and others for reporting.

I'm having a similar issue with nehalem. I am able to boot but the system gives me similar errors and locks up after starting mpd. Sticking with 4.7.8-1 for now. (Intel i5-520M)
Issue resolved with 4.8.4-4.
