I installed open-vm-tools successfully (Atleast thats why I think because copy&paste works fine), but I can't get it to resize the virtual machine correctly.
The .desktop file already existed so I didnt have to do that. Here is the log of
/var/log/vmware-vmusr.log
[Oct 29 22:32:46.966] [ message] [vmusr] Log caching is enabled with maxCacheEntries=4096.

[Oct 29 22:32:46.988] [ warning] [Gtk] cannot open display: :0
gtk2 and gtkmm are installed. (and can somebody tell me how to make that log in a code tag?)

I believe I'm having the same issue. Copy and paste work fine, however, the virtual machine is not resizing. I'm using Workstation 12.1 Pro
Steps:
pacman -S net-tools gtkmm
pacman -S open-vm-tools
cat /proc/version > /etc/arch-release
systemctl enable vmware-vmblock-fuse.service
reboot
[bbk@localhost ~]$ cat /etc/xdg/autostart/vmware-user.desktop
[Desktop Entry]
Type=Application
Encoding=UTF-8
Exec=/usr/bin/vmware-user-suid-wrapper
Name=VMware User Agent
# KDE bug 190522: KDE does not autostart items with NoDisplay=true...
# NoDisplay=true
X-KDE-autostart-phase=1[bbk@localhost ~]$ cat /var/log/vmware-vmusr.log

[bbk@localhost ~]$ echo $DISPLAY
:0
[bbk@localhost ~]$ set | grep DISPLAY
DISPLAY=:0
WAYLAND_DISPLAY=wayland-0
[bbk@localhost ~]$ One oddity that I noticed is that the cannot open display warning from the vmusr.log file does not contain a display. That wasn't inadvertently left out of the copy/paste, there's nothing there.
I'm really not sure where to go from here. If any other logs are required, please let me know.
