Need X to open port 6000 and accept TCP connections

Hi,

I am using startx to launch my X server, and I need `nmap -p6000 localhost` to indicate that I can accept connections over the network to manage the X server hosted on this Arch box.

I have removed the `-nolisten tcp` portion of /etc/X11/xinit/xserverrc so that it reads

exec /usr/bin/X "$@"

After restarting and launching `startx`, the port is still closed.

Has X11 removed this feature, or is something else preventing this port from being opened?

maybe http://unix.stackexchange.com/questions … ithout-ssh helps ?

Also if you have a firewall running make sure to open that port in the firewall .

Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.

clean chroot building not flexible enough ?
Try clean chroot manager by graysky

Re: Need X to open port 6000 and accept TCP connections

I'm on a fresh install of Arch, and `iptables --list` has no filters. If I launch an ad-hoc webserver on port 6000, I can access it from another computer on my network. Can anyone else confirm that removing `-nolisten tcp` has no effect on whether the port is opened by X? This used to be a usual mode of operation 15 years ago, but perhaps somewhere along the line, the feature was removed/broken.

The feature is still there, the default has changed. It used to be on and needed to be explicitly disabled (--nolisten tcp), now it's off and needs to be explicitly enabled (--listen tcp).

--listen tcp

Thanks! This solves it.
