Unable to read a Macintosh disk formatted HFS+

I have an external hard disk formatted in HFS+ that I am trying to read in Arch Linux and Gnome.  When I plug in the drive, I see an icon for it in Nautilus.  But when I click on it to see the content, I get an eror message saying:

"You do not have the permission necessary to view the contents of "GoFlex."

Searches have not revealed anything useful.

I have hfsprog and hfsutils installed.

Re: Unable to read a Macintosh disk formatted HFS+

You may have more luck by trying by hand. Become root and mount it by hand. Make a directory to mount your drive, say /mnt/thing. Plug your drive, find it with dmesg and issue a command like that:

mount /dev/sdb1 /mnt/thing

You can also try to pass "-t hfs" to the mount command.

Now for the Gnome problem, does it works when you plug a vfat formatted drive or usb key? If you have still a permission error then there is a problems with the permissions but I am not competent to debug this. Otherwise, it is a problem relative to the way Gnome try to mount the drive. Unfortunately, understanding exactly how Gnome (or otyer desktop) mount drive is not easy...

Re: Unable to read a Macintosh disk formatted HFS+

stat the mount path and or look around as UID0 (sudo su) - HFS+ supports unix permissions, so the top path could be 600 for some UID which is not yours?
