Hi all
I'm having trouble with the Intel 7265 I recently updated in my Dell XPS 13 9343. For some reason I can only seem to get the card to identify only 4 5Ghz channels.
Here is the output of 'iwlist freq':
wlp2s0 17 channels in total; available frequencies :
Channel 01 : 2.412 GHz
Channel 02 : 2.417 GHz
Channel 03 : 2.422 GHz
Channel 04 : 2.427 GHz
Channel 05 : 2.432 GHz
Channel 06 : 2.437 GHz
Channel 07 : 2.442 GHz
Channel 08 : 2.447 GHz
Channel 09 : 2.452 GHz
Channel 10 : 2.457 GHz
Channel 11 : 2.462 GHz
Channel 12 : 2.467 GHz
Channel 13 : 2.472 GHz
Channel 149 : 5.745 GHz
Channel 153 : 5.765 GHz
Channel 157 : 5.785 GHz
Channel 161 : 5.805 GHz
Current Frequency:2.412 GHz (Channel 1)
I have tried changing the wireless domain to US/GB/EU/JP/etc.. and it won't identify any additional 5Ghz channels, infact if I change the regulatory domain to GB (the country I am in) it actually removes all 4 of the remaining 5ghz channels and only shows 2.4ghz.
Can anyone offer any advice or insight into why this might be?

What if you uninstall crda and reboot? Mind you this is just for testing as for normal usage you should make sure to set the correct regulatory domain.

I originally did not have crda installed when this issue occured, I actually installed crda to try and rectify it but it appears to have made no difference.

Please post your full dmesg output, there might be some clues there. Regarding crda, I believe it can only remove allowed frequencies, not add more.
In which country did you buy the laptop, or where was it supposed to be sold originally? Did you try cross checking the allowed frequencies you have with the ones allowed in the country of sale?

The laptop was bought from Dell UK and the Intel card was purchased from Amazon.co.uk, there wasn't anything listed on the product listing that specifically related to frequencies.
I've posted dmesg here.
Cheers

Nothing stands out to me as a possible source of problems or hints, the only thing I recommend is that you try using the current stable kernel in the repos and also with linux-lts. Make sure you test after a cold boot.
The definitive test would be trying with windows and see how it behaves, see [1] for an example.

I have tried with the current -ARCH kernel in the repos and have the same problem. Unfortunately I do not have a Windows partition to test this and quite frankly I'm not prepared to go down that road as I don't use Windows at all, so a wireless card that only works correctly in Windows is kind of irrelevant to me. The whole reason I bought this replacement card was to benefit from the kernels open source drivers.
Thank you for your advice/suggestions though. I guess I'll just have to replace the card with another one..

The suggestion about windows was to confirm if it works as you want or not, which could have two results. If it didn't work you would be quite sure it would not work on linux, if it did work it would be a matter of figuring out why it doesn't work and possibly submit bug reports.
