[SOLVED] nm-applet is being weird again

Hello,
I'm having issues with nm-applet. It shows I'm disconnected, even though my network is up and I can browse the web. If I disable and re-enable network by rightclicking on applet it shows a single frame of the animation (the animation does not move, just a single frame) and goes back to showing I'm disconnected. Right after boot it shows my WiFi signal strenght, but it seems frozen as it doesn't move as I go away from my AP.

I can still manage connections using nmtui in terminal, so I'm pretty sure the issue is just with nm-applet. I don't have any more clues other than it seems to be working fine if I login and start X as root.

It's the single most annoying thing in my Arch installation. Any idea how to fix this other than moving to wicd?
Oh, I'm using MATE if that makes any difference.

I'm seeing the same thing in xfce.

Re: [SOLVED] nm-applet is being weird again

I've just found a workaround.
I removed network-manager-applet and installed network-manager-applet-gtk2 from AUR. It depends on networkmanager-ifupdown and libnm-glib-ifupdown, which crash in my install. I fixed that by editing network-manager-applet-gtk2's PKGBUILD so it depends on regular networkmanager from Arch repos. No problem so far, but it's not impossible for it to break with a NM update.
I hope this workaround works for you in xfce as well.

Might as well mark the thread as solved.

@DrathVader  Many thanks for the workaround, it works like a charm. What about the long term perspective though? This network-manager-applet-gtk2 package seems less well maintained, so it would be great to get a fix for `network-manager-applet`. Could you file this upstream?

You mean report a new bug in Arch bugtracker? Sorry, I installed Arch just 2 weeks ago, until then I used LMDE. I don't know the terminology too well.

Re: [SOLVED] nm-applet is being weird again

I hope its ok to post to a solved thread.

I have the same issue, and I figured out that it can be fixed by `pkill nm-applet; nm-applet &`. The problem appears on boot and when resuming from sleep.

So, now I want to file a bugreport and I am getting stuck: where do I report this? To the gnome bugtracker? The Arch bugtracker?

Re: [SOLVED] nm-applet is being weird again

Well, I think these both workarounds are not really solutions.

Edit: Upstream Bug: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=767317
