No Sound through HDMI

Hi,

I am using a 2011 macbook air (arch with KDE).

I manged to get most things working except for any sound output with my TV when connected with HDMI cable.

I tried the solutions in the wiki with the below but I don't get any sound. (replaced hw:1,3) with 0,3.

aplay -D plughw:1,3 /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Front_Center.wav

Any help would be appreciated.

Please let me know if this is a stupid question or if i posted to the wrong forum. I am a Linux newbie with no computer science background. I switched to arch because i was looking for a light distro as i was fed up with OS x and windows.

Thanks,

Re: No Sound through HDMI

First, Welcome to the Arch Linux Forums.
Second, please do not merely bump threads.  These are active forums with members eager to help.  If you are met with 'crickets', it is probably a good indication you should provide more information.

It was my impression that Macbooks of that era did not have HDMI ports.  Are you using some sort of Thunderbolt adapter?  Also, one of my daughters had a machine that was slightly older than that one that could not route audio through HDMI; it was for display only.  It was around 2011 that Apple came to their senses on that one.

Does HDMI audio work with other OSes?
Are you using Pulse Audio?
