I do kind of have to ask, when is Xorg 7.1 going to hit Testing? The update isn't an incredibly big one...

Binary drivers will break, I hear, so if that happens before compatible drivers show up, some users might be pissed off.
[Then again, they may/should opt not to update]
I don't care either way.

Perhaps it should go to Unstable then...

From what i've read online binary drivers won't break the nvidia modules totaly

Indeed you can't use AIGLX but at least it runs..I haven't heard anything considering ati fglrx but you can always use the opensource ones..
The most awkard thing is the person responsible for updating the nv driver in xorg to the latest ABI is supposedly the same person working on the nvidia driver.. :? i guess it shouldn't take that many time / work to get it running but oh well..

If you can't use AIGLX how can it be said to run? :?
(I've found some stuff online about getting AIGLX from CVS working with Openchrome drivers, with varying degrees of success. Couldn't find anything about how it works with 7.1; also, there's a new version of xf86-video-via driver for 7.1, but I'm not sure if or how that would work out. In fact, I haven't been able to find anything on how AIGLX with Xorg 7.1 works - for all I know, what's included in 7.1 could be broken.)

I meant the X can be ran but you can't use AIGLX.
I found this page on xorg-aiglx and compiz

You can't use AIGLX? Do you mean that it doesn't work for your hardware, that it doesn't work for Unichrome hardware, or that it's broken for all hardware?

Sorry for not being more explicit but i was talking about the close source drivers from ati..i have a 9700 pro.

I guess it should work with unichrome
Offline
Maybe. Openchrome drivers support it but seem a little buggy; not sure about the new XOrg driver.
BTW, shouldn't AGPDMA be enabled when you use AIGLX? Not using it causes significant performance drops, but I'm not sure how it would play with the indirect rendering.
