I have an external FHD Dell monitor connected to my Dell notebook via VGA port. It's working in mirror mode by default and i can't change this and also can't change external display resolution which is the same as my notebook display 1366x768. When i run xrandr it doesn't detect VGA output for some reasons :
$ xrandr -q
xrandr: Failed to get size of gamma for output default
Screen 0: minimum 1366 x 768, current 1366 x 768, maximum 1366 x 768

1366x768 0.00* lspci output
$ lspci | grep -i vga

$ sudo lshw -C display

To sum up : external display connected to notebook via VGA is working but only as notebook screen clone with the same resolution as notebook. xrandr is not detecting VGA port. Is there any other way to fix this ? Like setting xorg.conf up ??
Thanks

Probably a kernel bug, try downgrading or the lts kernel:

I'm currently on 4.8.6-1 - will give a try with downgrading bc this is definitely something wrong with my actual configuration. If i run Manjaro from USB external display works like harm
EDIT: Downgrade to 4.6.4-1 didn't fix that problem. At the moment it's not big problem, because I'm going to change my notebook to new one with fresh Arch installation next week
