Gnome on Xorg

Hi guys!

I actually have two questions, and only one of them is about Gnome&Xorg, and other just about Gnome itself. Maybe somebody get some tips and tricks about that?

First of all. Gnome on Xorg looks jerky. When you move the windows, it's just painfully obvious. I'm not running an incredibly powerfull PC (it's actually very cheap HP laptop w/AMD E2-6110 onboard), but I've faced the same issues on my not-so-underpowered i5-6400 machine (Intel Iris graphics). So I believe this issue is related to Gnome. Because: KDE is absolutely smooth; MATE on Deb Jessie is absolutely smooth. I'm also running amdgpu (xf86-video-amdgpu, not amdgpu-pro) driver. Maybe there is someone who already have fixed this? Appriciate for any advises (or links to them: I've already searched as much as I can, but haven't found any solution whatsoever).

Second question, it's actually very short. The whole system w/Gnome on startup eats around 790 Mb's on right after start. Doctor, is this normal? I've just checked, gnome-shell process is around 140-150 Mb's.

P.S.: I'm using latest Gnome version from Arch repository.

P.P.S: Sorry, writing this post from my phone, so cannot actually attach any output information right now.

Re: Gnome on Xorg

1: Have a look at the System preferences > Details and see what it says next to 'graphics' if this is set to 'software rendering', that's your issue right there.
2: How did you check it? Depending on the number you took, it is including cache as well.

Re: Gnome on Xorg

Thanks for your answer.

1. Nope, graphics is GALLIUM 0.4 on AMD MULLINS et cetera et cetera. Funny thing is, Gnome on Wayland works fine and everything is smooth until I start any app. And boy, the mouse input lag. I think it's related to very slow GPU perfomance, so I'm not even asking about dat.
2. I've captured it using htop utility

SayCheeseOrDie, I am sorry.  We were editing the above post at the same time.  I think I blew away your edits.

Re: Gnome on Xorg

Are you sure your APU is supported by amdgpu? According to  this page, you should be using radeon/xf86-video-ati. So maybe you can start there?

No problems. I've just removed it because there is no incredibly useful information in it anyway.:) I posted screenshot because of pseudographic output on top of the terminal emulator, which I think is a bit creepy to share as code. Sorry, didn't really get image size restrictions for the first time. Won't happen' again.
I would appreciate if you remove "Moderator edit" line, because I'm a bit afraid to do it by myself.

Taijian, It actually is. I was able to install steam, run glxgears and even play Super Meat Boy and Stardew Walley (with suprisingly good framerate even with VSync), so I'm pretty sure it's not driver related issue. Again. KDE, for example, works fine, on the same machine with the same driver installed.

Re: Gnome on Xorg

I've recently disabled a lot of my Gnome extensions and my experience improved a lot. It was very choppy/laggy before. I think some extensions make GNOME heavy/slow.

Re: Gnome on Xorg

Unfortunatly, I believe that's not my case at all. I'm running just 4 extensions: Alternatetab, Dash to Dock, OpenWeather and Native Window Placement. I've tried to turn them off, but there is no real benefit from that whatsoever.
