Creating Presentation Slides on Linux

Hi, sorry if I posted in the wrong section. Please move it to the correct section as you see fit.

So on Linux I've been using Google docs to create slides or sometimes Libreoffice but the process is quite time consuming as you have to constantly point and click this or that just to write a piece of text and get it into the format that you want.

I've heard of people using markup languages like AsciiDoc to develop slides by just writing text to a file but I'm not sure how practical it is or haven't found any good tutorials related to that. I've tried AsciiDoc before and was successful in generating a pdf file by using an intermediary conversion tool, it seemed okay I guess.

On a sidenote, I've seen a lot of Linux developers especially in conferences create awesome looking slides but I've never figured out how they do it. In one occasion one guy said he uses Latex for the job and there's like some conversion process which seemed a bit complicated. I'm a programmer myself so I don't mind going through such stuff as long as it doesn't get too much in the way of doing things.

I want your opinion or suggestion regarding what to go for and why you use it or how well that works for you.

Thanks for your time smile

I usually use Beamer, but occasionally use reveal. I would suggest doing a search on "slide deck" to get oodles of choices.

Re: Creating Presentation Slides on Linux

I second the latex beamer recommendation.  It is how a majority of those presentations you refer to were probably made.

There is a bit of learning curve to latex, but really not much to just get off the ground.  It's very easy if you're content using any of the common templates for beamer.  But there is *a lot* you can delve into to learn more to customize everything.

Also, latex is immensely "googleable".  When you need to know how to do some new thing (add images, media, tables of contents, multiple columns, etc) the answers are readily found via a quick web search.
